Juana la Iguana

Iguanis Divinis · An iguana from the jungles and coasts of Tulum

“Look at me!”

The star has arrived! Make way! Look at meee! Oops! Hi, hi! I'm Juana. How's it going? Have you seen my colors? Hee hee! I knew you'd love them!

I'm an iguana and I live in the jungles and coasts of Tulum, where the sun is nice and warm and the palm trees sway in the breeze. My favorite activity? Lounging in the sun like a total celebrity! We iguanas need to warm up to have energy. And if I happen to look fabulous while I'm at it, even better!

But I have a secret even my fans don't know: I have an extra little eye on top of my head! It's not to look prettier, ha ha! It's a special organ that helps me sense light. I love to win, to show off and to be the center of attention. What can I say! But one day I discovered something more important than the prettiest colors or the loudest applause: what truly makes me special is inside me!

And here's a secret between you and me: no two iguanas are exactly alike. Each one has her own colors, her own personality and her own way of shining. And the same is true for you! You don't need to be first, to always win, or to look like anyone else. You're already amazing just being you!

But my magical little eye has a secret power almost nobody knows about: it doesn't just sense sunlight… it also sees the sparkle each of us carries inside! You have yours, your mom has hers, your little friend has theirs… and no two sparkles are the same! Shall we play a game to see it? Think of something you did today that makes you feel proud, or something lovely you have inside… got it? Let me look with my third eye!… Oh, oh, OH! What a beautiful sparkle! And the best part: that sparkle is always yours, whether others see it or not.

And now, enough chit-chat, it's time to dance! I have a song full of rhythm, with lots of K-pop style, so you can shake your tail and shine on the dance floor. It's called «¡Mírenme a Mí!» (Look at Me!). Three, two, one… let's sparkle!

Your sparkle doesn't depend on applause: it already lives inside you. And when you learn to see everyone else's, we all shine brighter!

For grown-ups

Iguanas are cold-blooded reptiles that need to bask in the sun to regulate their body temperature. They also have a light-sensitive organ called the parietal eye, on top of their head, which helps them detect changes in light.

Through Juana, kids discover that every individual has unique traits and that true worth doesn't depend on winning, standing out or comparing yourself to others. A lovely opportunity to strengthen self-esteem, authenticity and respect for differences.
